A major accident has happened in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. More than 50 workers got buried in snow due to glacier breaking near Badrinath Dham. Out of these, 10 workers have been rescued and taken out safely, while the search for 47 is going on.
Major accident due to glacier breaking
According to the information, the accident happened near Mana village, three kilometers ahead of Badrinath Dham. On Friday morning, snow removal and repair work was going on on the National Highway (NH) connecting Mana-Ghastauli, in which about 57 workers were engaged. During this, all the workers got buried in snow due to glacier breaking. As soon as the information of the accident was received, officials of Border Road Organization (BRO) and district administration reached the spot.
Rescue operation continues, 47 workers still missing
So far 10 workers have been rescued safely in the rescue operation. They have been admitted to the Army's Mana camp in critical condition. At the same time, rescue operation is going on to search for 47 workers.
Police and administration's response
Police Headquarters spokesperson IG Nilesh Anand Bharane said, "A massive avalanche has occurred near the Border Roads Organization (BRO) camp in the border area Mana, in which 57 workers engaged in road construction are trapped. Out of these, 10 workers have been rescued and admitted to the army camp in critical condition." BRO Executive Engineer CR Meena said that three to four ambulances have been sent to the spot, but due to heavy snowfall, the rescue team is having difficulty reaching there.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed deep grief over this accident. He wrote on the X, "Sad news was received of many workers being buried in an avalanche during the construction work being done by BRO near Mana village in Chamoli district. ITBP, BRO and other rescue teams are carrying out relief and rescue operations. I pray to Lord Badri Vishal for the safety of all the labor brothers."
Challenges in rescue work
Due to heavy snowfall, the rescue team is facing difficulty in reaching the spot. The state government and administration are keeping a close watch on the situation and efforts are being made to speed up the rescue work. There
is an atmosphere of concern in the entire state due to this incident and the administration is engaged in carrying out relief work at a fast pace.
