Umaria   . In a major crackdown against corruption in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a PF clerk of sub-region office of SECL, Naurozabad red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1.3 lakh. The accused is accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from the complainant for the payment of his father's pending provident fund.

CBI spokesperson said that the complainant's father used to work in Kudri coal mine and passed away on May 14, 2021. The complainant visited Sub Area Office, Naurozabad several times for payment of his father's pending provident fund, where he met the accused PF clerk. The accused allegedly told the complainant that his father's provident fund amount was around Rs 50-60 lakh.

The accused demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from the complainant and said that out of this, Rs 2.5 lakh has to be paid to the Commissioner of Coal Mines Provident Fund Regional Office, Jabalpur. The accused demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from the complainant as the first installment of the bribe. The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused PF clerk red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1.3 lakh from the complainant. The accused has been arrested and will be produced before the competent court on March 25, 2025.

The CBI searched the premises of the accused from where incriminating documents were recovered. Further investigation is underway in the case.
