Undeclared emergency on media, constitution and institutions in Modi rule: Bhupesh

Raipur    Congress National General Secretary and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on June 25, on 'Emergency Protest Day', put the Modi government in the dock and said that the country has been in the grip of an undeclared emergency for the last 11 years. He alleged that the media, judiciary, constitutional institutions and educational institutions - all are under the pressure of power and democracy has remained only in name under the Modi regime.

Intention to change the Constitution, the purpose of the 'four hundred cross' mandate is clear
Bhupesh Baghel said that the BJP gave the slogan of 'four hundred cross' in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections only with the intention of changing the Constitution, but the people of the country clearly rejected the BJP. He said that a conspiracy was being hatched to tamper with Baba Saheb Ambedkar's Constitution, but the people of India chose democratic values, expressing faith in the protection of the Constitution.

"Control and repression everywhere - this is not democracy, it is dictatorship"
Bhupesh Baghel said that now raising questions in Parliament, debating or even seeking answers from the government has become a reason for punishment. He alleged that the BJP government was toppling opposition governments through tactics like horse-trading of MLAs, interference through the governor, misuse of tax and regulatory agencies.

"The Constitution is being quietly violated"
He also said that the role of CAG has been neutralised. The impartiality of the Election Commission has become questionable. The RTI has been made almost inactive. Questions are being raised on the transparency of EVMs, but there is no accountability.

Unprecedented control, fear and suppression on media
Baghel said that such pressure has never been seen on the media, where news agencies are being intimidated by raids by the tax department, ED and CBI. He termed the action on BBC, Dainik Bhaskar, Newsclick, NDTV, The Wire and other institutions as 'political vendetta'.

"If you join BJP, everything is forgiven"
He quipped, "Leaders who join the BJP become ED-free and CBI-free. But those who are in the opposition are held hostage and tried to be intimidated."

“Promoting divisive politics, attacking social harmony”

Bhupesh Baghel said that the government is defaming the opponents by calling them 'urban Naxals' and 'Khalistanis', and those who spread hatred are being rewarded with high positions in the government. He alleged that there is an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the minority communities, while the ruling party is openly protecting those who spread hatred.

Bhupesh Baghel said that today's India is moving away from the basic ideas of the Constitution, and a united opposition has now become the last hope for democracy. He questioned the BJP: "When you yourself have broken every democratic institution, how do you have the moral right to celebrate Black Day?"
