BENGALURU: The Chandrayaan-3 lander module successfully performed a decompression (deceleration) maneuver to bring it closer to the moon and its condition is normal, ISRO announced on Friday.
The lander module, consisting of a lander (Vikram) and a rover (Pragyan), will perform its second deboosting operation on August 20, to be lowered to an orbit that takes it much closer to the Moon’s surface.
A soft landing on the lunar south pole is scheduled for August 23.
"The condition of the Lander Module (LM) is normal. The Lunar Module performed a successful deboost operation, reducing the orbit to 113km x 157km. The second deboosting operation is scheduled for 20 Aug 2023 at 02:00 Hrs. IST,” ISRO said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The Chandrayaan-3 lander module successfully separated from the propulsion module on Thursday, 35 days after the July 14 satellite launch.
