Nicolas Maduro took oath as the President of Venezuela. He took oath for his third term. The Presidents of Cuba, Nicaragua attended his swearing-in ceremony. Maduro has been the President since 2013.

Maduro took the oath on Friday in front of Venezuela's National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez. During this, he pledged to ensure peace, prosperity, equality and new democracy in Venezuela.

After being sworn in for the third time as Venezuela's president, Maduro said, "I swear on history and on my life that I will carry out my duties." He then received the presidential stripes and the Order of the Liberators, which is a symbol of the president's authority in Venezuela.

In his speech after being sworn in, Maduro called for a broad dialogue process to move toward a major constitutional reform that he said would make Venezuela more democratic.

He said the aim of this reform is to up-date the principles of the Constitution based on the new economy and society and to protect the country from new technological threats.

"Today I will sign a decree creating a comprehensive national commission to draft a constitutional reform project, which aims to advance the process of democratization and define Venezuela's new society and economy," Maduro said.

Maduro won the presidential election scheduled for July 28, 2024, with 51.95 percent of the vote, according to data from the National Electoral Council.

Although questions were raised about his victory, Venezuela's election authority and top court declared Maduro the winner of the election.

Born on 23 November 1962, Nicolas Maduro has been the President of Venezuela since 2013. In the recent past, Venezuela has been facing a severe economic crisis due to Maduro's government.
