A female doctor at Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) Bilaspur has accused the Head of the Department of Medicine (HOD) of harassment. In the complaint, she has alleged inappropriate behavior, mental harassment and physical rejection. Regarding this matter, the Chhattisgarh Doctors Federation has written a letter to Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai demanding immediate intervention. The

female doctor's allegation and the federation's response
The victim female doctor, who is a post graduate resident of MD Medicine second year, has written a letter to the state president of Chhattisgarh Doctors Federation against Dr. Pankaj Tembhurnikar, HOD of the Department of Medicine. In the letter, she alleged continuous mental and physical harassment for the last eight months.

The female doctor told that when she was on emergency duty, Dr. Tembhurnikar snatched her mobile phone and threw it away. Apart from this, she has also alleged verbal abuse and inappropriate touching. The victim said that due to these incidents she is under severe mental stress and her work performance is being affected.

Taking this matter seriously, Chhattisgarh Doctors Federation has written a letter to Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai and demanded a fair investigation of the matter and appropriate action. The federation also said that if immediate action is not taken, they will be forced to take legal steps.

CIMS administration's response and steps taken
After this serious matter came to light, the CIMS management took immediate action and called an emergency meeting on February 6. The following decisions were taken in the meeting:

Dr. Amit Kumar Thakur has been appointed in-charge of the roster, attendance, workbook and log book of PG students. All PG students will now seek guidance from Dr. Thakur instead of directly contacting the HOD.

Dr Pankaj Tembhurnikar has been kept out of university exams because some PG residents are his relatives.

Female PG residents of second year will not be given posting in the unit of HOD of medicine department.

The investigation into this matter is ongoing and the Doctors Federation is demanding proper justice.
