Police on Friday arrested a smuggler and seized 30 kg of heroin and claimed to have busted a cross-border drug smuggling gang. According to police, the drugs were being smuggled from Pakistan using drones and this is the biggest consignment seized so far this year.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said in a post on the social media platform 'X', "In an intelligence-based operation, Amritsar rural police busted a cross-border smuggling gang. Police recovered 30 kg heroin from a car and arrested a drug smuggler.
Drones were used to bring the drugs from Pakistan. '' He said, '' The arrested accused was involved in large-scale smuggling of heroin and it is reported that recently he had received a large consignment of heroin smuggled through drones from across the border. '' He said that an FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Gharinda police station. Yadav said that investigation is underway to identify other persons involved and to trace the smuggling gang.
